When taking your dog to the beach, it’s important to be prepared by checking beach laws and making sure your dog is ready for the fun. Many beaches post their rules online, so you can check if your dog is allowed and if there are any additional safety precautions. For example, some beaches require your dog to be on a leash (even in the water).

You will also want to make sure that your dog is comfortable with all the activities you have planned and is used to being around people and other dogs. If you plan to spend a lot of time in the water, you should know that not all dogs can swim, although many retrievers love it! The AKC also recommends carrying plenty of water and consider using sunscreen on your dog’s nose and ears.

If you have doubts about how your dog will behave on the beach, meeting with a professional dog trainer is a great way to help prepare them not only for the beach, but for any other trip you have planned. Training courses at Happy Pup Manor will not only teach your dog basic commands, but also allow him to meet other friendly puppies and develop the social skills he needs.
